Privacy policy
This page describes the data handled by the Synopedia website, its browser extensions and its Google Docs add-on, all published by BIGBANG MEDIA (see the legal notice).
The synopedia.com website
The website sets no cookies and uses no advertising, no analytics and no tracking tools.
Like any website, our host o2switch keeps a technical log of requests (IP address, date, page requested), kept briefly for security and never used for anything else.
Messages sent through the contact form (your email address, subject and message) are used only to reply to you. They are neither shared nor reused.
Synopedia Extension Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026. Published by BIGBANG MEDIA, Laval (France).
The Synopedia extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) does not collect, store on any server or transmit any personal data or usage data.
Works offline. The synonym and antonym lists are bundled with the extension. It sends no request to any server, ours or anyone else’s. There is no account, no cookie, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
Page access. Only when you choose “Synonyms for…” in the right-click menu does the extension read the page language and the selected word, to show the result and, if you click a synonym, replace that word in the text box. Nothing it reads is kept or sent anywhere.
Local preferences. Your chosen language and your last searched word are kept in your browser’s storage, on your device only. They are deleted when you remove the extension.
Links to the website. The “See all synonyms on Synopedia” link opens synopedia.com in a new tab, only when you click it. The address includes a tag showing that the visit comes from the extension. The website’s own legal notice then applies.

Synopedia Repeated Word Finder Privacy Policy
Last updated October 14, 2026. Published by BIGBANG MEDIA, Laval (France).
The Synopedia Repeated Word Finder extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) does not collect, store on any server or transmit any personal data or usage data.
Works offline. The repetition check and the synonym dictionary are bundled with the extension. It sends no request to any server, ours or anyone else’s. There is no account, no cookie, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
Page access. Only when you choose “Find repeated words in this field” in the right-click menu does the extension read the field text and the page language, to check it in its window. If you click “Replace the field text”, it writes the corrected text back into the field. That text is never sent anywhere.
Local preferences. Your chosen language and the window draft are kept in your browser’s storage, on your device only. They are deleted when you remove the extension.
Links to the website. The link to a word’s page opens synopedia.com in a new tab, only when you click it. The address includes a tag showing that the visit comes from the extension. The website’s own legal notice then applies.

Synopedia for Google Docs privacy policy
Last updated on 14 October 2026.
Synopedia for Google Docs (the “add-on”) is published by BIGBANG MEDIA, Laval (France), publisher of synopedia.com.
Data used
When you ask for synonyms, the add-on locates the selected word or expression, or the word under the cursor, within its paragraph, then sends that word alone to www.synopedia.com, together with the chosen language, to retrieve its synonyms. When you click a synonym, the add-on replaces the word in the open document. Nothing else from the document leaves Google Docs.
What the add-on does not do
- It does not access any other file. The permission it requests is limited to the document you open it in.
- It does not collect your name, your email address or the content of your documents.
- It does not store, share or sell the words you look up, and does not use them for advertising or to train models.
Retention
- The request to synopedia.com is made from Google’s servers, not from your device. Synopedia receives no information about your account. Like any website, the host keeps a technical log of requests (date, requested address), kept briefly for security purposes and never linked to a person.
- The dictionary’s answers, which are public, stay for at most 6 hours in the add-on’s cache at Google, under a fingerprint of the word, with no link to your identity.
- The language of synonyms you choose (a code such as “en”) is saved in the add-on’s properties attached to your Google account, so it can be offered again next time.
Repetition finder
When you run the repetition finder, the add-on reads the text of the open document (paragraphs, lists and tables) and counts it in the sidebar, on your device. This text is not sent to synopedia.com or to anyone else, and nothing is kept once the sidebar is closed. Only the words whose synonyms you display are sent, as described above. Highlighting, off by default, colours the repetitions in the document with a colour specific to the add-on, visible to people who can access the document. “Remove highlighting” removes that colour, and only that colour.
Google permissions
- documents.currentonly, to read the selection and the text of the open document, replace a word and, if you ask for it, highlight repetitions
- script.container.ui, to show the menu and the sidebar
- script.external_request, to query synopedia.com
Synopedia’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
